Xavi Takes the Helm of the Netherlands National Football Team

Xavi Hernández, the former Spanish football star, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Netherlands national team. According to the Dutch football association, the 46-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him in charge until at least the conclusion of the 2030 World Cup.

Xavi succeeds Ronald Koeman, who stepped down following the team's exit from the World Cup after a defeat to Morocco.

The upcoming Nations League match against Germany on September 24 will mark Xavi's debut as the head coach of the Dutch side. This clash is also significant as it will be Jürgen Klopp's first match in charge of the German national team.

"A Bit of a Son of Dutch Football"

Xavi expressed his excitement about the role, calling it "a great honor." He does not anticipate any significant adjustment period, stating, "Having trained at the FC Barcelona academy and being heavily influenced by Johan Cruyff and Rinus Michels, I feel a special connection to Dutch football. You could say I am a bit of a son of Dutch football."

Before taking on this new role, Xavi managed FC Barcelona from 2021 to 2024, leading the team to a Spanish championship in 2023. As a player, he enjoyed even greater success with Barça, winning the UEFA Champions League four times and securing both World and European Championship titles with the Spanish national team.
