Reggina Appoints Marco Marchionni as New Head Coach

Reggina has officially announced Marco Marchionni as their new head coach for the upcoming season. The club is looking to Marchionni to lead the team on a new path, aiming to return to the professional ranks of Italian football.

Marchionni comes to Reggina following a successful tenure at Ravenna, where he made a significant impact last season. Under his guidance, Ravenna achieved notable results in the Serie D 2024/25, winning the playoff for their group and the Coppa Italia Serie D. These accomplishments played a crucial role in the club's subsequent promotion back to Serie C.

This new role presents both a challenge and a familiar environment for Marchionni. He previously led Novara to promotion from Serie D to Serie C in 2021, showcasing his capability to advance teams through the ranks.

The official statement from the Reggina club read:

“A.S. Reggina 1914 announces that Mr. Marco Marchionni has been appointed as the head coach of the first team.”

Born in Monterotondo, Marchionni began his career as a midfielder with the Roman club before moving to Empoli in 1998. His impressive track record includes fourteen seasons in Serie A and six appearances for the national team, highlighting his exceptional skills. Throughout his career, he has played for several prestigious clubs, including Juventus, Fiorentina, and Parma.

Marchionni's coaching journey began in the 2018/2019 season when he served as an assistant coach for Carrarese under Silvio Baldini. In the 2020/2021 season, he took over as head coach of Foggia, leading them to the Serie C playoffs. He also earned his UEFA Pro license in September 2020.

His first major achievement as a head coach came with Novara, where he led the team to victory in the Serie D 2021/2022 season, boasting the best attack and defense in their group. After a stint at Potenza in the 2022/2023 season, Marchionni's two-year period at Ravenna was marked by winning the Coppa Italia and the Serie D playoffs, culminating in a return to professional football.
