Matthias Sammer Offers Support to DFB Amid Major Changes

Significant shifts are underway at the German Football Association (DFB), with Jürgen Klopp set to take over as the new national team coach and Per Mertesacker poised to replace Andreas Rettig. Former DFB player and current Borussia Dortmund advisor Matthias Sammer has also expressed his willingness to contribute.

Sammer, who has a rich history with the DFB, has been observing the organization from a distance and is not entirely pleased with what he sees. "I have signaled to the two most important representatives of the DFB that I am ready to help our football with content," Sammer told Zeit.

"However, this is not about a position or a role for Matthias Sammer; it is about content. I have experience in this area, having successfully conveyed it for six and a half years, culminating in the World Cup title in 2014."

Sammer Seeks to Aid DFB Through Crisis

Despite his willingness to assist, it remains uncertain whether the DFB will engage with Sammer, especially as they are set to officially introduce Klopp on Friday. The immediate focus is on solidifying the coaching position before exploring further solutions and initiating necessary reforms.

Sammer Criticizes Team's "Complacency"

"There has been an attempt to achieve something extraordinary while adhering to the rules of maximum convenience and satisfaction. This cannot work in sports or in life," he remarked, referring to Germany's exit in the Round of 16.

There is much to address, and Sammer is confident in his ability to tackle these issues, regardless of the role he may play. This prospect is likely to be discussed within the DFB, as the association could certainly benefit from his expertise.

Given his background, a dialogue between Sammer and the DFB could be on the horizon, which would be a welcome development for all involved.
