Frenkie de Jong Addresses Injury and Speculation
Frenkie de Jong speaks out on his knee injury and addresses recent speculation regarding his commitment to FC Barcelona and the national team.

Frenkie de Jong, the captain of FC Barcelona, has recently spoken out amid a challenging period marked by injury and media speculation. The 29-year-old midfielder is currently dealing with a medial ligament tear in his right knee, a setback that has compounded his difficulties since the World Cup.
Reports have surfaced suggesting a strained relationship between de Jong and national team coach Hansi Flick. In light of these rumors, de Jong took to Instagram to clarify his stance and set the record straight.

"Normally, I don’t pay much attention to what’s written about me, the team, or the club," he stated. However, he expressed that the recent speculations had begun to take a toll on him. "It’s hard for me to see how people question my relationship and commitment to the club based on false reports."
De Jong emphasized his passion for football, declaring, "Football is everything to me. I have always given my all for FC Barcelona and my country." He felt compelled to share the reality of his situation, particularly regarding his injury. Initially, during the World Cup, he was informed that the injury was minor and would not worsen with continued play.

"The only challenge was playing through some pain," he explained, noting that he has often pushed through discomfort to contribute to his team. It wasn’t until he returned to Barcelona that further examinations revealed the full extent of the injury. Fortunately, he confirmed that surgery would not be necessary. "Sometimes, there are things you cannot control, and this injury is one of them," he remarked.
In closing, de Jong reaffirmed his dedication to both FC Barcelona and the Dutch national team, stating, "Playing for Barça and Oranje makes me incredibly proud. My commitment to both will never change."
