Fenerbahce and Fred Part Ways

Fenerbahce Istanbul has officially announced the end of its collaboration with Brazilian midfielder Fred. The Turkish vice-champions confirmed the separation on Friday, marking a significant change for both the club and the player.

According to Fenerbahce's announcement on X, Fred's tenure at the Istanbul club has come to an end. The 33-year-old joined Fenerbahce in 2023, transferring from Manchester United for approximately ten million euros.

Originally, Fred's contract was set to run until 2027, but both parties have agreed to a premature termination. Reports suggest that Fred is likely to return to Brazil, with Atlético Mineiro being the frontrunner for his signature. The expected transfer fee is around 2.5 million euros.

During his three seasons with Fenerbahce, Fred was unable to secure a major title, consistently finishing as runner-up in the Süper Lig behind city rivals Galatasaray.

In the previous season, Fred was a regular starter, making 45 appearances, where he scored four goals and provided four assists.

Before his move to Turkey, Fred spent five years at Manchester United, who had acquired him from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018 for a fee of 59 million euros.

His departure opens up opportunities for Fenerbahce to register new foreign players, as the club has recently signed notable talents including Nathan Ake, Vedat Muriqi, Romelu Lukaku, and Mason Greenwood.
