Josko Gvardiol Commits to Manchester City, Bayern Munich Transfer Off the Table

Josko Gvardiol, the 24-year-old Croatian international, has made a definitive choice regarding his future, opting to stay at Manchester City for the long term. This decision effectively rules out any potential transfers to Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.

According to Sky Sport, Gvardiol and his agent Marjan Sisic arrived in Manchester on Monday, where the defender is set to sign a new contract lasting until 2031, accompanied by a significant salary increase. An official announcement is expected to be made shortly.

This resolution ends months of speculation surrounding the talented defender. Recently, Gvardiol had been frequently linked with a move to Bayern Munich, where his versatility—capable of playing both left-back and center-back without a drop in quality—was highly valued.

Real Madrid also reportedly expressed interest in Gvardiol. The player had indicated that he would announce his decision following the World Cup and has now chosen to remain in England.

The long-anticipated contract extension appeared uncertain following the departure of manager Pep Guardiola, but Gvardiol has reaffirmed his commitment to the Sky Blues.

Having transferred from RB Leipzig to Manchester City for a fee of €90 million in August 2023, Gvardiol has become a key figure in the team's defense, featuring in 122 matches for the storied English club.

In the meantime, Bayern Munich has shifted its focus and no longer has a pressing need for the former Bundesliga star. The club recently secured Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt for €50 million plus bonuses to bolster their left-back position.
