  • Horizon
  • Beetlejuice 2

  • Trap
  • Mickey 17

  • A look ahead to 2025

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Joker 2

During the presentation, the first trailer for Joker 2 was revealed, with director Todd Phillips expressing gratitude to exhibitors for their role in the success of the original film. Phillips shared that discussions about a sequel with Joaquin Phoenix began during the pandemic, stating, "We didn’t talk seriously, but we didn’t want to jinx it. When the first film became a massive success, Joaquin and I discussed it and decided to return to that world."

On casting Lady Gaga, he remarked, "We chose her because she’s magical, don’t you think? I was a producer on A Star is Born, and I first met her there. When I saw her perform, I thought there was something magical within her."

Phillips also addressed the film's musical elements, clarifying, "We never viewed it in those terms. It’s a film where music is an essential component, and for me, it’s not that different from the first movie. Arthur already has music inside him; it was crucial for the dance scenes in the first film, so the leap isn’t that big. It will be different, but it will all make sense."

Horizon

Beetlejuice 2

The Watchers - Loro ti guardano

The studio showcased new footage from the horror film The Watchers, written and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of renowned director M. Night Shyamalan. The film stars Dakota Johnson as a woman who becomes stranded in a remote Irish forest during a road trip. She soon discovers that an ancient dark force is at play, trapping individuals with illusions. The narrative follows four characters who are tested in various ways by terrifying monsters.

Trap

M. Night Shyamalan presented the teaser trailer for his upcoming film Trap, set to release on August 2, 2024. The story unfolds during a pop concert at a massive stadium, featuring Josh Hartnett as a father who takes his daughter to see a performer named Lady Raven. After stepping away briefly, he encounters police outside the venue. A conversation reveals a serial killer known as "The Butcher" is targeting fans. The twist reveals that the concert is a trap designed to ensnare him, culminating in a chilling moment where Hartnett’s character hints that he may be the very killer they seek.

Mickey 17

The audience was treated to the first trailer of Mickey 17, directed by Bong Joon-ho. Robert Pattinson stars as Mickey, who agrees to become "disposable" for dangerous missions. Bong Joon-ho explained, "It’s based on a sci-fi novel titled Mickey 7, but we named it Mickey 17. The 17 signifies the number of times he dies, so I decided to have him die ten more times."

The plot follows an ordinary man who ultimately ends up saving the world. The trailer showcases Pattinson’s character dying repeatedly, each time returning as a clone. At one point, two clones exist simultaneously, leading to a decision to eliminate both.

Pattinson remarked, "He’s my hero. I read the script and thought it was one of the most unusual, funny, bizarre, and beautiful sci-fi scripts I’ve ever read."

Superman

The presentation also featured a logo reveal for Superman and a video message from director James Gunn, who shared updates from the film's production. He expressed excitement about joining everyone in Las Vegas next year to announce the summer of Superman.

A Look Ahead to 2025

The event concluded with a preview of 2025. Jack Black sent a greeting from the set of Minecraft, while Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor thanked exhibitors from the set of Flowervale Street. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan also sent a message from the Superman set, teasing that the film will feature "a man with a cape." The greetings continued with Maggie Gyllenhaal from the set of The Bridge, the cast of Final Destination Bloodlines, and Ryan Coogler from a film starring Michael B. Jordan.
