Emmanuel Petit Questions Harry Kane's Ballon d'Or Prospects

Emmanuel Petit has expressed doubts about Harry Kane's chances of winning the Ballon d'Or following the recent World Cup. The former French international offered a mixed assessment of the Bayern Munich striker's performance during a recent interview with SPORT1.

Petit stated that Kane's prospects for the prestigious award have significantly diminished after the tournament. "If you only consider his performances in the Bundesliga, he would certainly be a Ballon d'Or candidate. However, in the Champions League and with his national team, when the pressure was on, he often disappeared," said the 1998 World Cup winner.

The former player believes that other names will take precedence over Kane in the Ballon d'Or race, even though the competition remains open until the end. He also noted that favorites such as Ousmane Dembélé, Kylian Mbappé, and Michael Olise fell short during the World Cup.

Kane has been prolific for Bayern Munich, having made 50 appearances across all competitions last season, where he scored an impressive 60 goals and provided seven assists.

Since his £100 million transfer from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023, the England captain has established himself as the top striker at Bayern, leading the team at the Säbener Straße.

His contract in Munich runs until 2027, and recent signals indicate that discussions regarding an extension are intensifying, with crucial negotiations between Kane and the club expected to take place soon.
