Crystal Palace Pursues Bundesliga Defender in Potential €30 Million Deal
Crystal Palace is advancing in the pursuit of a new central defender from the Bundesliga, with talks ongoing over a potential €30 million transfer for Chrislain Matsima.

Crystal Palace is actively working to secure a new central defender, with the focus set on a Bundesliga player who could come at a cost of around €30 million.
Recent discussions have taken place between Crystal Palace and FC Augsburg regarding the transfer of Chrislain Matsima (24, contract until 2030). As reported by Florian Plettenberg on X, the Frenchman is currently in Augsburg, but he has not yet received clearance for a medical examination.

According to Sky Deutschland's journalist, both clubs are finalizing the last details of the deal, particularly concerning payment terms and bonus structures. The final approval for the transfer is reportedly imminent.
The total package for the transfer is expected to exceed €30 million upon completion. For Augsburg, this would represent a significant profit, as they had signed the defender permanently from AS Monaco for just €5 million in the summer of 2025, following a previous loan spell in the Bundesliga.
In the last season, Matsima made 20 appearances, contributing one goal and one assist over 1,660 minutes of play. Bayern Munich had previously shown interest in Matsima's situation, but no formal offer has been made from the Bavarian club recently.
Matsima is being eyed as a replacement for Maxence Lacroix (26, contract until 2029), who is likely to transfer to Chelsea for approximately €55 million. Crystal Palace acquired Lacroix in 2024 from VfL Wolfsburg for €18 million.
The new Eagles head coach, Pierre Sage (47), is continuing to reshape his defense, having already secured Óscar Mingueza (27) on a free transfer to bolster the backline.
