Borussia Dortmund Faces Dilemma with Yan Couto Transfer

Borussia Dortmund finds itself in a challenging situation regarding Yan Couto, as the club prepares for a protracted transfer saga. With no immediate resolution in sight, negotiations with Como 1907 have stalled, leaving both parties in a bind.

Couto arrived at Dortmund in 2024 with high expectations following an impressive season at Girona in La Liga. The Brazilian was expected to inject pace and attacking flair into the right flank. However, after two years with the club, he has spent more time on the bench than on the pitch.

Couto Seeking Exit – A Lengthy Transfer Saga Looms

Both Couto and Dortmund appear to be aiming for a separation, but finding a buyer has proven difficult. Initially, a transfer to Como was seen as the most likely outcome, particularly after Couto had discussions with the Serie A side. However, negotiations between Como and Dortmund have been anything but smooth.

Reports indicate that the deal was on the verge of collapse, and as of now, no agreement has been reached. The two clubs reportedly have significantly different views regarding the financial terms of the transfer. A loan deal with a purchase option of around 20 million euros was initially discussed.

This arrangement would have allowed Dortmund to recoup approximately what they paid to Manchester City in 2025 after a year-long loan, which had already cost them 5 million euros. Ultimately, a transfer seems to have fallen through for the time being, although all parties remain interested in finding a resolution.

Couto's Disappointing Performance in Friendly

How the situation will unfold remains uncertain. What is clear, however, is that Couto's future at Dortmund appears bleak. In a recent friendly match against Fortuna Düsseldorf, where Dortmund lost 1-2, Couto was substituted in during the second half by coach Niko Kovac. Unfortunately, he failed to make an impact, looking lackluster and ranking among the weakest performers on the field.
