Apple TV has just released the trailer for "Mayday," an action comedy featuring Ryan Reynolds alongside Kenneth Branagh.

In 1988, "Double Trouble" became the first American film shot in Moscow's Red Square. This iconic buddy movie from the late Cold War era paired an American hero (James Belushi) with a Soviet protagonist (Arnold Schwarzenegger).
An Unlikely Friendship Amidst the Cold War
Since then, such pairings have become commonplace despite ongoing tensions between the two nations. "Mayday" fits into this tradition, set in 1987 and telling the story of an American pilot (Ryan Reynolds) whose plane is shot down by a missile.
Parachuting into the heart of Siberia, he is rescued by a former KGB agent (Kenneth Branagh). Fortunately, this agent is an American enthusiast; their partnership will allow the American to escape this perilous situation while the Soviet dreams of emigrating to the country he admires. However, as one might expect, things will not go as planned...
Two Reliable Names in American Comedy
If the premise isn't enough to pique interest, "Mayday" is written and directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. This dynamic duo is well-known for their remake of the classic "National Lampoon's Vacation" and more recently for their adaptation of the tabletop game "Dungeons & Dragons."
"The buddy movies of the 80s were a curious and delicious mix of humor, danger, and authenticity. "Mayday" is our homage to this genre, featuring the unlikely duo of Ryan Reynolds and Sir Kenneth Branagh," the directors stated in an official press release.
Filmed just over two years ago, the release of "Mayday" has transitioned from a theatrical debut to an exclusive streaming release. The film will be available on Apple TV starting September 4th.
