FC Bayern Plans to Sell Final Shares to Viessmann
FC Bayern plans to sell its last five percent stake to Viessmann for €250 million, fully utilizing the statutory limit for share sales.

FC Bayern Munich is set to sell its last five percent stake to Viessmann for €250 million, fully utilizing the statutory limit for share sales.
The decision was made by the club's presidency, led by Herbert Hainer, as reported by both "tz" and "Merkur." This transaction would elevate the heating technology manufacturer to a primary partner status, joining existing stakeholders like Telekom, Adidas, Audi, and Allianz.
Legally, the approval from club members is not required for this move, as a previous initiative to limit share sales was rejected during the 2021 annual general meeting. Following this sale, the parent club will hold 70 percent of the shares, down from the current 75 percent.
Honorary president Uli Hoeneß commented on this in November 2025, stating, "We have a deal with our members that we will not sell more than 30 percent. Theoretically, we could sell five percent without consulting the members. For more, we would need a two-thirds majority, which we will never achieve."
Selecting a Suitable Partner
According to reports from "tz" and "Merkur," financial considerations were not the sole factor in selecting the new partner. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen emphasized that if they proceed with selling the final five percent, it’s not just about maximizing profits. The new shareholder must align strategically with the club and share its values.
Viessmann has been a sponsor of Bayern Munich since 2018, gradually expanding its involvement and recently extending its partnership until 2029.
Prior to this, FC Bayern had also engaged in negotiations with other potential investors. In 2025, discussions took place with Swedish investment firm EQT regarding a smaller share acquisition. However, this deal fell through after the departure of then-financial director Michael Diederich. Meanwhile, Max Viessmann, CEO of Viessmann Generations Group, is already a member of the supervisory board at FC Bayern.
