De Zerbi Advocates for Bergvall's Future at Tottenham Amid Transfer Speculations

Roberto De Zerbi, the head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, has recently shared his thoughts on the future of young midfielder Lucas Bergvall. The 20-year-old player has attracted interest from several clubs, but De Zerbi is keen on keeping him at the club.

De Zerbi expressed his desire for Bergvall to remain with Tottenham, stating, "Lucas has never said that he wants to leave, and I speak with him every day." He believes in the Swedish midfielder's potential, saying, "I want him to stay with us because I think he has the potential to become an absolute top player."

However, the Tottenham coach also emphasized that he does not want to pressure any player to stay. "Tottenham is a top club, and we shouldn’t have to convince anyone to remain," he remarked. De Zerbi acknowledged the challenge of finding a young talent of Bergvall's caliber, which is why he hopes the player will choose to stay.

Reports indicate that Bergvall has requested permission to explore a transfer, primarily due to limited playing time under the new coaching staff during the latter part of the previous season.

The young midfielder has caught the attention of several clubs, including AFC Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, and Brighton. Additionally, Bayern Munich has also been linked with a potential move for the 20-year-old.

Last season, Bergvall made 33 appearances, contributing one goal and four assists, although his total playing time of 1502 minutes left room for improvement.

Bergvall joined Tottenham in the summer of 2024 from Djurgården for an initial fee of ten million euros, which has since risen to 20 million euros due to performance-related bonuses. He is contracted with the Spurs until 2031.
