One of the Most Iconic Heroines in Literature: 27 Years After Tim Burton's Cult Film, Sydney Sweeney Will Dive into This Fantastic Universe

The star of "The Maid" will be the heroine and producer of "Hollow," a retelling of "Sleepy Hollow" through the perspective of the character Katrina Van Tassel, a role played by Christina Ricci in Tim Burton's film.

Twenty-seven years have passed since Tim Burton's adaptation of Sleepy Hollow, featuring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci. While Washington Irving's tale has inspired numerous works, including a series, Sydney Sweeney is set to resurrect the legend of the Headless Horseman.

The Euphoria and The Maid star will take on the lead role in the film Hollow, which is written and directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser). The actress will also produce the project through her new production company, Honey Trap.

Hollow is actually an adaptation of the first novel by screenwriter and director Lindsey Anderson Beer. The rights to the work were acquired even before its publication, which is currently scheduled for fall 2027.

What Will Hollow Be About?

According to Deadline, Hollow is a "bold reinterpretation" of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, told from Katrina Van Tassel's perspective. "Revisiting one of the most iconic heroines in literature, the novel presents Van Tassel not as a romantic trophy, but as the central figure in a dangerous mystery and an enchanting supernatural love triangle. The story blends gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue, and elements of erotic thriller in a contemporary and conceptual reinvention of the classic tale."

The character of Katrina Van Tassel will be portrayed by Sydney Sweeney. She notably succeeds Christina Ricci, who played the heroine in the 1999 film.

Sydney Sweeney will primarily be featured in the sequel to The Maid, which is already set to be released on December 15, 2027. The actress will star alongside Kirsten Dunst.
