Cinema Quiz: 9 Images, 9 Movies to Recognize!

As we are just recovering from the vibrant Music Festival, we invite you to play with these nine movie scenes in which a character plays an instrument. Will you finish this quiz with a good score?

Three years ago, during the 2023 edition of the Music Festival, we offered you a quiz where you had to recognize movie scenes featuring guitar playing.

As tradition dictates, the first question was not difficult at all. One could even call it a formality, as the image presented has become iconic over the decades. Indeed, you could see actor Michael J. Fox holding a red Gibson guitar, and there was no trick; it was neither Ferris Bueller's Day Off nor Footloose, but the prom scene and the fiery solo of Marty McFly in Back to the Future.

Increasingly Difficult Questions

But of course, it wasn’t going to stay that simple, and a few images later, it was a bruised Jennifer Jason Leigh playing an acoustic guitar that was presented to you, along with three answer options. While 22% of the answers pointed to From Dusk Till Dawn by Robert Rodriguez, and 24% to the western True Grit, just over half of the responses turned to the correct option, which was Quentin Tarantino's ninth feature film, The Hateful Eight.

The same fate awaited the next question, which showed actor Ryan Gosling playing the ukulele in front of actress Michelle Williams, where again only half of you chose the correct answer. It was neither The Notebook, where the actor stars alongside Rachel McAdams, nor The Place Beyond the Pines with Eva Mendes, but indeed the film Blue Valentine directed by Derek Cianfrance.

Three years later, we are expanding the range of instruments, and in this new quiz, you will encounter other guitars, but also a drum set, a cello, and even a flute. Do you think you can hit the right note to achieve the Perfect score?
