On Sunday, June 21, France 3 launched the airing of Season 7 of Hudson & Rex. In this new batch of episodes, Lieutenant Charlie Hudson (John Reardon) and his extraordinary partner Rex, a German Shepherd, continue to solve complex cases with the help of Lieutenants Sarah Truong, Jesse Mills, and Commander Joe Donovan in Newfoundland.

Why is John Reardon Absent from Season 7?

Although John Reardon appears in the first two episodes of Season 7 of Hudson & Rex, he is unfortunately absent from the following episodes. While the reasons for this absence were kept secret for a long time, the actor spoke out last September to reveal that he had been fired by the show's production. He chose to share this through an Instagram post.

“I have kept silent for a while – partly because it was hard to find the words, and partly because I didn’t want someone else to speak for me,” he wrote.

“The truth is, I did not leave Hudson & Rex. After undergoing treatment for cancer for a few months, I received a medical certificate stating that I was healthy and I was allowed and ready to return to work.”

“But the team chose to go in another direction. Even though this is not how I hoped to see this seven-year journey end, I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to be part of creating something special.”

In this Instagram post, he also took the time to thank the other cast members as well as the crew who worked alongside him on Hudson & Rex. He also expressed gratitude to his fans who supported him when he announced his tonsil cancer. It is actor Luke Roberts who will take over the role in the remainder of Season 7 as well as in Season 8.

John Reardon Returning Soon

Fans of Hudson & Rex can rest assured, John Reardon will indeed return in Season 9. His abrupt dismissal had sparked anger among fans of the police series, who mobilized on social media.

A few weeks ago, the Canadian channel City TV announced on Instagram that the actor would reprise the role of Hudson in Season 9. All's well that ends well for John Reardon.
