In Here Everything Begins, Rose has passed her third-year exams at the Institute and is preparing for a somewhat quieter summer... or almost! Vanessa Demouy discusses what lies ahead for her character.

Rose has risen to the challenge she set for herself in Here Everything Begins on TF1! Indeed, the character played by Vanessa Demouy has successfully passed the third-year exams at the Auguste Armand Institute, alongside Coline (Talina Boyaci) and Ferdinand (Simon Dartois)... An achievement for someone who has never really ventured behind the stove!

With AlloCiné, Vanessa Demouy reflects on this storyline and discusses what awaits Rose this summer...

AlloCiné: What did you feel when discovering the culinary challenge that Rose decided to take on in "Here Everything Begins"?

Vanessa Demouy: I was overjoyed! I finally had my place in the kitchen. I had been talking about this with the writing team for so long; I expressed my desire to get closer to the culinary aspect of the series. Being able to finally do it made me very happy.

Did you receive any training to learn technical gestures for the filming needs?

I was already quite a good cook, so I didn't need the training that young actors undergo when they join the first-year team. They receive culinary coaching and "refresher courses" throughout the year. On my side, I work directly with the culinary team on set: they show me the gestures to perform, and I replicate them immediately. I'm not asked to do anything overly complicated... (laughs)

How was your collaboration with Simon Dartois, aka Ferdinand?

We had already crossed paths quite a bit on other storylines, so we had the pleasure of working together before. Sharing this arc with Simon and Talina was pure joy. They are great professionals, very precise, who managed to maintain that sense of play that is dear to me: this spirit of fun and wonder.

Does passing these exams relate to what Rose feels towards her father, the great chef Auguste Armand?

I think there is a part of conscious and unconscious in all our choices. When Rose stops lying to herself and admits that she loves cooking, she realizes that she was simply rebelling against her father. She pushed cooking away out of rejection of him, even though it's in her DNA. There was also her positioning in relation to her sister: it can be difficult to encroach on her reserved domain.

Once she has made peace with her past, certain things still haunt her, like impostor syndrome. She can still hear her father's voice asking her: "Who do you think you are?" (laughs) In her discussions with Ferdinand, she becomes aware of all this. There is a mirror effect: she recognizes herself in him, in his flaws and traumas.

How did Anne-Sophie Pic's appearance on "Here Everything Begins" go?

Beyond being the most starred chef in the world, she is someone I am a huge fan of. It’s always delicate to meet someone you admire because you fear being disappointed, but this meeting was magical. She even saw a parallel between Rose's journey and hers, as she is self-taught! Watching her cook on set was an extraordinary moment.

What does Rose feel after her victory, and could she ultimately consider pursuing this path?

I think she is proud. Perhaps for one of the first times in her life, she feels this pride because it is a personal victory. She has gone beyond her demons and silenced them. It is also a collective victory, which is essential for Rose, who advocates for transmission. Now, she is officially qualified to be a chef. This opens up a whole range of possibilities... On my side, I would love to explore this direction. I enjoyed all this culinary work and love collaborating with the specialized teams of the series. It is the very essence of our program.

What is the future of the couple formed by Marc (Stéphane Blancafort) and Rose?

It’s a couple that feels good because it is adult, without being boring. They have kept a playful side, a form of camaraderie and lightness. They don’t take themselves too seriously; everything is fluid and simple between them. So far, so good! I can’t predict what will happen in six months, but for now, a beautiful summer is on the horizon...

The Armand family will soon be reunited with the return of Louis (Fabian Wolfrom)****…

Reunited? That’s a strong word! (laughs) We interact, and we have some beautiful sequences together, but Louis's return is not welcomed in the same way by Clotilde [Elsa Lunghini, ed.] and by Rose. There will be a twist in this storyline that will force Rose to look at her brother very differently. Louis is a fascinating character because, like all those we love to hate, he is not just evil. He is filled with flaws and also lives in the shadow of his father.
